Fix: Pixel 7 Pro ‘Phone Idle’ Battery Drain Issue

Follow the solutions I’ve mentioned below to fix the Pixel 7 Pro phone idle battery drain problem. If the problem has surfaced after updating the phone, you should wait for a week, because it can take time for the adaptive battery to work.

1. Disable Always-On Display

Always-On Display feature is great as you can easily important events on your screen without tapping the screen or the power button. But, it contributes to battery drain. If you want to get the best battery life out of your phone, you have to disable it. Follow these steps:

  1. Open the Settings app on your phone.
  2. Click Display and tap on Lock Screen.
  3. Disable Always show time and info.

2. Restrict Background Battery Usage for Select Apps

An app can keep running in the background, even though you’ve removed it from recent apps. You’ll need to find the culprit which is consuming a lot of battery in the background. For this, go to Settings > Battery and click on Battery Usage.

You can see App usage for the past 24 hr. You can see the app with the highest battery usage. Tap on it and click Restricted to restrict its battery usage in the background. It could boost the battery backup on your Pixel 7 Pro.

3. Turn off Mobile Data Always Active Option

If you keep mobile data and Wi-Fi turned on at the same time, the device may use mobile data if the Wi-Fi signal is not strong. Your phone might keep switching, and this switching process can result in battery drain. While it’s a useful feature, you would not want to use it at the cost of reduced battery life. You can disable the Mobile data always active option from the Developer options.

Follow these required steps:

  1. Open the Settings app on your Pixel.
  2. Go to About phone and tap 7 times on the build number to enable Developer Options. You may need to enter the lock screen password.
  3. Go back to the Settings page, and click System.
  4. Tap on Developer Options.
  5. Disable the Mobile data always active option.

4. Update Your Phone

A software bug could be causing excessive battery drain on your Pixel 7 Pro. Google may have included a fix for this issue in the latest software update. You should therefore update your Pixel 7 Pro.

Go to Settings > System > System update to check for new updates. If an update is available, proceed to download and install.

5. Enable Battery Saver Mode

Enabling the battery saver mode limits the background activity on your phone. It results in extra battery time. After enabling battery saving mode, you’ll have to sacrifice on higher refresh rate and auto-sync feature.

To enable Battery Saver, go to Settings > Battery > Battery Saver. You can now enable the Battery Saver option.
